Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)
Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is an evidence-based, short-term therapy designed to help individuals quickly and effectively resolve distressing thoughts, memories, and emotions. ART is especially helpful for those experiencing trauma, anxiety, depression, and other challenges that feel “stuck” or overwhelming.
ART works by using guided eye movements—similar to those that occur naturally during REM sleep—combined with specific visualization techniques. These eye movements help the brain process and reorganize how distressing memories are stored. Instead of reliving painful experiences, clients are able to reframe them in a way that reduces their emotional intensity.
One of the unique aspects of ART is that you do not have to share every detail of your experience out loud. The process allows you to work through difficult memories privately while still achieving meaningful relief. During sessions, your therapist will guide you step-by-step, helping your brain replace distressing images with more positive or neutral ones.
ART can be helpful for a wide range of concerns, including:
Trauma and PTSD
Anxiety and panic attacks
Depression
Grief and loss
Phobias
Stress and burnout
Relationship challenges
Difficult life transitions
Many individuals begin to notice improvement within just a few sessions, making ART a highly efficient option for those looking for relief without long-term therapy. The goal of ART is not to erase memories, but to change how they are experienced, so they no longer trigger intense emotional or physical reactions.
