Hannah Vander Broek

I grew up in a small town in northwest Iowa until 2011, when I moved to Sioux Falls to attend Augustana College. I graduated in 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Spanish, and shortly thereafter began working as a direct care staff at a psychiatric residential treatment facility for youth ages 4-14 in Sioux Falls. During that time, I began pursuing my Masters in Social Work in 2017 through the University of Iowa’s satellite campus in Sioux City, IA, and graduated in 2020. Upon graduating I began practicing as a Clinical Case Manager and Therapist at another psychiatric residential treatment facility in Sioux Falls, working with youth ages 10-18 and their families.

After over seven years of experience working with high-need individuals and families, I have gained experience in trauma-informed care, de-escalation, and crisis intervention. I have been able to utilize these skills in individual, family, and group therapy settings. I also provided education and coaching for residents’ parents in methods for dealing with their children’s inappropriate, unhealthy, or defiant behaviors. I am passionate about providing trauma-informed care and researched-based interventions. I utilize a person-centered approach and enjoy helping clients translate skills learned in therapy into their everyday lives.
