Tara Espland
I grew up on a farm in Southwest Minnesota where I learned the importance of working hard. I moved to the Canton area in 2005 after finishing my bachelors degree to work as an Addictions Counselor for adolescents. In 2010 I received my Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from SDSU. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Licensed Addictions Counselor, and Qualified Mental Health Professional through the State of South Dakota. I also have a Certified Therapy Dog you might find hanging in the office with me. I’ve always had a passion for helping people. I believe in the importance of investing in oneself because you cannot pour from an empty cup. Life can be challenging and I’d love to walk with you through the tough times. I have experience with adolescents, addiction, couples and families, families affected by addiction, depression, anxiety, miscarriage, grief and loss, trauma, self esteem, and more.
I’m married, have 2 daughters, and a son. Outside of the office you can find me doing activities with my family. We love camping in the summer and have dreams of homesteading in the mountains. I love crafting and cooking. My cup is filled by finding the beauty in each day, my children’s laughter, quiet moments in the morning with a good cup of coffee, being outside, eating off food trucks, listening to music, and my faith.Dually licensed in SD and IA! Available to see clients in person in South Dakota and via telehealth in South Dakota or Iowa.
