Whitney Kroupa

Hey everyone,

As a rural, South Dakota native, I began my journey in the helping field at South Dakota State University where I earned my bachelor’s degree while studying psychology and sociology. I then worked in a community mental health center for about 3 years while also attending graduate school at the University of South Dakota. I obtained my master’s in social work in May 2016. Since then, I have been employed with Avera Queen of Peace providing outpatient mental health counseling to adults, children, and families.

As your therapist, I will walk next to you, never in front of you. I utilize theoretical approaches including Behavior Therapy, Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, and play-based therapy strategies. I have 11 years of experience working with youth, adults, and families in a variety of settings. I possess a special interest in children facing adversity and have experience treating major depression, bipolar disorder, behavioral disturbances, and family disruption.  I will meet you with nonjudgment and be present with you through your process of healing. Come as you are and know you are accepted.

When I’m not working you will find me diving head-first into life with my boys. I am a Mom of two little guys, and boy, are they special! This winter I got engaged to my best friend and plan to marry next spring. My family is my purpose and for that reason, it’s important to take care of myself both physically and emotionally, so I can be there for them, and for you. I enjoy traveling, attending my kids’ activities, pedicures, organizing, jigsaw puzzles, and the Minnesota Vikings.

I am a Licensed Certified Social Worker and Private Independent Practitioner in South Dakota and hold a Qualified Mental Health Practitioner certificate. The best part of my job is witnessing the pieces of a person’s life come together in a fashion that makes sense to them. Let’s chat!
